  • Do I add hot or cold water to my Recipe Mix?

Always add cold water to Schwartz Recipe Mixes, unless otherwise stated in our directions.
Adding hot water would prematurely start the cooking process and make the mix lumpy.

  • Schwartz Slow Cooker Recipe Mixes

using a 3.5L slow cooker, the recipe on the back of pack works very well without the addition of water, unless specifically stated in the recipe. The ingredients required, such as a tin of tomatoes, vegetables and meat are sufficient to give you the perfect result at the end of the cooking time.

  • What is the Bag 'n Season cooking bag made from?

The cooking bag contained within the packaging of this product is made from Polyethylene also called PE.

  • Where can I buy your products?

Schwartz products are, in general, available in most supermarkets.

Alternatively, you can also now buy our products online. Simply go to the Products page on this website here and navigate through to the page of the product you wish to purchase. Add the product to your basket and proceed to the checkout, or continue shopping.

  • Do you have any cookbooks?

We have previously printed Schwartz cookbooks, however, we haven’t produced any in the last few years and no longer hold any in stock. Most of the recipes which were available in the cook books are now available on our website, together with a large selection of scrummy new ones. Just click on the Recipes tab here and use our recipe search function to be inspired and find what you’re looking for.

  • Why can I not buy all your products in carton packets?

As we only have a limited amount of space on shelves in supermarkets, we work hard to ensure that the best possible range is available to our consumers. As a result, we only produce carton packs of our top-selling products, so that in addition to offering our customers great value, we also offer great choice.

  • Can you please send me recipes

All of our delicious Schwartz recipes are now available on our website. Just click on the recipe page here, and use the search filters to find recipes to tickle your taste buds.

You can also now email the recipes on our website to a friend, or download them and save them on your computer. Or why not register with Schwartz here so you can add the Schwartz recipes you like to your own recipe folder online, ready to be accessed at any time of the day or night?

  • Why have you discontinued my favourite product?

From time to time we do discontinue some of our products. This is usually because the sales of the product have been falling, or because there is a lack of demand for it from our customers.

  • Do your products contain MSG?

Schwartz products do not at this time contain any added MSG as part of their recipe. If they did, we would clearly identify this in the ingredient declaration shown on the back of each pack.

  • Do your products contain nuts?

Please see ingredient list for details.

  • Where does Cinnamon come from?

There are many species of cinnamon, each of which is sourced in different geographical locations and which have differing properties for use in food.

Schwartz Whole Cinnamon Sticks are produced from Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum, sometimes called True Cinnamon) as this variety has the appropriate physical properties to produce useable whole cinnamon quills.

In common with many other manufacturers in the UK and worldwide, Schwartz Ground Cinnamon has for many years been composed of Cinnamomum cassia, as this produces a spice with a stronger, sweeter flavour more suitable for baking and other applications.

Cinnamon has been used as an ingredient to add taste to food for centuries and, like many other natural food products, it should have no adverse effect on health if consumed in moderation, as part of a balanced diet. Coumarin is a naturally occurring component of all Cinnamomum species and levels will naturally vary. Although Coumarin levels are naturally higher in Cassia than ceylon cinnamon, Schwartz carefully monitor and control the quality of our Ground Cinnamon to ensure that applicable safety tolerances are met.

In the most recent redesign to our Schwartz packaging (starting to appear now in shops) our labelling has been updated to clearly reflect the nature of the cinnamon species used for all our products.

  • Do you provide Mail Order?

Order from the full range of Schwartz products directly from our website. Look out for our special promotional offers as well, click on the 'shop' tab at the top of the page, add your order/s to the basket and proceed through to the checkout. We only dispatch orders to UK postal addresses.

  • Do Schwartz give charity donations?

Schwartz considers requests for donations very carefully. Please contact us and we would be more than happy to put your request forward. We try to help as many events as possible, however, we do get a number of requests every week and unfortunately we are unable to say yes to everybody.

  • What's the difference between Allspice and Mixed Spice?

We’ve put together a table to explain this, which we hope will help you.

      Allspice: Mixed Spices:
General Information: Allspice is the dried, unripe berry from a tropical evergreen tree, Pimenta dioica, which is native to the Caribbean and parts of the central Americas. Unlike Allspice, which is a single spice, Schwartz Mixed Spice is a blend of several spices, including Cinnamon, Coriander Seed, Caraway, Nutmeg, Ginger and Cloves.
Flavour profile: Allspice has a strong flavour and aroma, similar to a mixture of Nutmeg, Cloves and Cinnamon. Mixed Spice has a warm, spicy and sweet flavour and aroma.
Uses: Allspice is more commonly used in savoury dishes and is a popular ingredient in Jerk mixes, curry powders, meat seasonings, mulled wine spices and tagine blends. Use sparingly. Mixed Spice is traditionally used in baking and adds a delicious flavour to cakes, biscuits and puddings. Use generously.
