Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question about our company, one of our products, recipes or web site...you may find the information you’re looking for here.
Our team at Schwartz have answered some of the most frequently asked questions we receive from you.
If you're unable to find the answer to your question below please feel free to Get In Touch.
- Where can I buy your products?
Schwartz products are, in general, available in most supermarkets. Call Rachel, write to Rachel or use our online form here to send Rachel your details and the product(s) you are looking for, so we can run a stockist check by postal code and reply to you.
Alternatively, you can also now buy our products online. Simply go to the Our Range page on this website here and navigate through to the page of the product you wish to purchase. Add the product to your basket and proceed to the checkout, or continue shopping.
- Do you produce a Herb and Spice Chart?
- Do you have any cookbooks?
We have previously printed Schwartz cookbooks, however, we haven’t produced any in the last few years and no longer hold any in stock. Most of the recipes which were available in the cook books are now available on our website, together with a large selection of scrummy new ones. Just click on the Recipes tab here and use our recipe search function to be inspired and find what you’re looking for.
- Why can I not buy all your products in refill packets?
As we only have a limited amount of space on shelves in supermarkets, we work hard to ensure that the best possible range is available to our consumers. As a result, we only produce refill packs of our top-selling products, so that in addition to offering our customers great value, we also offer great choice.
- Can you please send me recipes
All of our delicious Schwartz recipes are now available on our website. Just click on the recipe page here, and use the search filters to find recipes to tickle your taste buds.
You can also now email the recipes on our website to a friend, or download them and save them on your computer. Or why not register with Schwartz here so you can add the Schwartz recipes you like to your own recipe folder online, ready to be accessed at any time of the day or night?
- Why have you discontinued my favourite product?
- Do your products contain gluten?
In general, our pure Schwartz herbs and spices do not contain added gluten as they do not contain bulking agents such as flour. However, Schwartz products are produced in a production unit which handles gluten. So cross contamination, although unlikely, may occur.
In line with government regulations, all food products now have to have a full ingredient declaration which clearly states if cereals containing gluten have been added to a product. So if a product has added cereals containing gluten, it will be stated on the label.
The product pages of the Schwartz website also contain allergen information.
- Do your products contain MSG?
- Do your products contain nuts?
- Where does Cinnamon come from?
Cinnamon and cassia are the inner bark of tropical evergreen trees which have been used for centuries as a spice.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) is often called Ceylon cinnamon because it is a native plant of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). It is lighter in colour and has a more delicate flavour than cassia, which is darker in colour, sweeter and stronger in flavour than cinnamon.
There are several different species of cassia, but the main varieties are:
- Cinnamomum burmannii which is often called Korintji cinnamon and which is grown in Indonesia
- Cinnamomum cassia which is often called Chinese cassia because that is where is it normally grown
- Cinnamomum loureirii which is often called Saigon cinnamon and is grown in Saigon
For more information on cinnamon, please see the Cinnamon product page here or download the PDF on the Cinnamon product page here. Have a look at our world map here too, to find out about other herbs and spices and where they’re grown.
- Do you provide Mail Order?
Schwartz provides mail order of the full range of products to the UK only. Please contact us for product prices.
Alternatively, you can now also order online. Simply go to the Our Range page on this website here and navigate through to the page of the product you wish to purchase. Add the product to your basket and proceed to the checkout, or continue shopping!
- Do Schwartz give charity donations?
Schwartz considers requests for donations very carefully. Please contact us and we would be more than happy to put your request forward. We try to help as many events as possible, however, we do get a number of requests every week and unfortunately we are unable to say yes to everybody.
- What's the difference between Allspice and Mixed Spice?
We’ve put together a table to explain this, which we hope will help you.

Allspice: |
Mixed Spices: |
| General Information: |
Allspice is the dried, unripe berry from a tropical evergreen tree, Pimenta dioica, which is native to the Caribbean and parts of the central Americas. |
Unlike Allspice, which is a single spice, Schwartz Mixed Spice is a blend of several spices, including Cinnamon, Coriander Seed, Caraway, Nutmeg, Ginger and Cloves. |
| Flavour profile: |
Allspice has a strong flavour and aroma, similar to a mixture of Nutmeg, Cloves and Cinnamon. |
Mixed Spice has a warm, spicy and sweet flavour and aroma. |
| Uses: |
Allspice is more commonly used in savoury dishes and is a popular ingredient in Jerk mixes, curry powders, meat seasonings, mulled wine spices and tagine blends. Use sparingly. |
Mixed Spice is traditionally used in baking and adds a delicious flavour to cakes, biscuits and puddings. Use generously. |
