Classic Sausage Casserole

Description

This tomato sauce mix with red bell peppers and herbs will quickly transform simple ingredients into a perfect family meal.


Usage ideas

  CLASSIC SAUSAGE CASSEROLE

 

450g (1 lb) sausages
1 onion, sliced
1 packet Schwartz Sausage Casserole Recipe Mix
300ml (1/2 pint) water
175g (6oz) mushrooms, sliced

 

1.  Pre-heat the oven to 180C, 350F, Gas Mark 4.

 

2.  Fry the sausages in a frying pan, until brown.  Add the onion and cook for a further 3-4 minutes, until softened.

  

3.  Transfer to a casserole dish.  Blend the packet contents with the water and add to the dish with the mushrooms.

 

4.  Stir thoroughly, cover and cook for 1 hour.

 

5.  Serve with mashed potatoes and green cabbage.

 

 

  STOVE TOP METHOD


Fry the sausages until brown.  Add the onion and cook for a further 3-4 minutes, until softened.  Blend the packet contents with the water, add to the pan with the mushrooms and bring to the boil.  Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the sausages are cooked.

 

 


  Try using either pork or beef sausages.


  For a Spicy Sausage & Bean Casserole replace the mushrooms with chopped yellow pepper, adding a tin of drained mixed beans and ½ tsp Schwartz Crushed Chillies.

 

 

     SLOW COOKER INSTRUCTIONS

 

Brown the sausages and onions in a pan, drain excess oil, and add to your slow cooker. Blend the packet contents with the water and add to the slow cooker with the mushrooms. Cook according to your slow cooker instructions.

We cooked it on a low setting for 5½ hours, but please refer to the manufacturer's instructions for best results.

 

 

   SUITABLE FOR FREEZING

 

This finished recipe is suitable for freezing. Transfer the cooked recipe to an airtight container and leave to cool. Cover and place in the freezer for up to 1 month, for best results.

 

Re-heating Guidlines - Defrost thoroughly overnight in a refrigerator. Transfer to a saucepan and heat gently over a medium-heat, stirring occasionally, until piping hot throughout. Alternatively, place in a microwaveable bowl, cover loosely with cling film and re-heat in the microwave on HIGH for 4-5 minutes, stirring half-way through, or until piping hot throughout.
