Create a classic Italian-style sauce for this simple
to prepare Lasagne. The rich tomato and meat sauce is flavoured with
Mediterranean herbs and garlic. For a delicious alternative substitute
chicken or vegetables for the minced beef.
Usage
LASAGNE
450g (1lb) minced beef
1 packet Schwartz Lasagne Recipe Mix
150ml (¼ pint) water
3 tbs tomato purée
6 sheets lasagne pasta
600ml (1 pint) thick cheese sauce
50g (2oz) Cheddar cheese, grated
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C, 350°F, Gas Mark

2. Brown the minced beef in a saucepan. Drain the excess liquid.
Blend the packet contents into the water and add to the pan with the
tomato purée.
3. Place alternate layers of the beef mixture, pasta and cheese sauce
in an ovenproof dish, finishing with a layer of cheese sauce.
4. Sprinkle with cheese and bake for 35-40 minutes.
5. Serve with a tomato salad and garlic bread.
For a vegetable lasagne, gently fry sliced mushrooms,
peppers, courgettes and aubergines in 2 tbs oil and add a 200g (7oz) tin
chopped tomaoes. Follow stages 2-4 of the directions
above.
SUITABLE FOR FREEZING
You
have two options for freezing this recipe. You can make up the meat sauce
and freeze this to make a lasagne in the future or, alternatively, you can
make up the lasagne, including the cheese sauce, layer as usual but do not
cook. Cover tightly with foil and freeze, once cooled, for up to 1 month
for best results.
Re-heating Guidlines - Defrost
thoroughly overnight in a refrigerator and cook in the oven as per the
usual instructions.
