  • 50 gram (2 ounce) back bacon, chopped

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 1 carrot, grated

  • 1 stick of celery, thinly sliced

  • 2 tablespoons oil

  • 450 gram (1 pound) minced beef

  • 100 gram (4 ounce) button mushrooms, sliced

  • 3 tablespoons tomato purée

  • 400 gram (14 ounce) tin chopped tomatoes

  • Pinch sugar

  • 125 millilitre (4 fluid ounce) red wine or beef stock

  • 2 teaspoon Marjoram Herb , or Oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Granules

  • pinch Ground Nutmeg

  • Ground Black Pepper

  • Salt

Instructions

  • 1 Fry the bacon, onion, carrot and celery in the oil until softened. Add the beef and brown. Stir in the mushrooms, tomato purée, tomatoes, sugar, wine or stock, Marjoram or Oregano, Garlic Granules, Nutmeg and Pepper. Cook, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season to taste.
  • 2 Serve with spaghetti.
