For OUR RECIPE you will need …
1 sachet Schwartz Sausage Casserole Recipe Mix
450g (1lb) sausages
1 onion, sliced
2 tbs tomato puree
175g (6oz) mushrooms, sliced
300ml (½ pint) cold water
1. Pre-heat oven to 180ºC, 350ºF, Gas Mark 4.
2. Fry sausages for 4-5 minutes, until browned. Drain excess liquid. Add onion and cook for a further 3-4 minutes, until softened. Stir in tomato puree and cook for a further minute.
3. Transfer to a casserole dish and add mushrooms. Mix sachet contents with water and add to casserole dish. Cover and cook for 1 hour.
4. Serve with mashed potatoes and green cabbage.
Hints & Tips …
Why not try adding a tin of chopped tomatoes instead of water, replacing the mushrooms with chopped yellow pepper and adding a tin of drained mixed beans.
Stove top directions: Fry sausages until browned, drain excess liquid. Add onion and cook for a further 3-4 minutes, until softened. Stir in tomato puree and cook for a further minute. Mix sachet contents into water, add to pan with mushrooms and bring to the boil. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until sausages are cooked.
Slow Cooker directions: Place sausages, onions and mushrooms in the slow cooker. Mix sachet contents with water and tomato puree and add to the pot. Cook to your slow cooker manufacturing instructions.
This finished recipe is suitable for freezing. Transfer the cooked recipe to an airtight container, leave to cool prior to sealing. For best results use within 1 month of freezing.
Defrost thoroughly overnight in a refrigerator. Transfer to a saucepan and heat gently over a medium-heat, stirring occasionally, until piping hot throughout. Alternatively, place in a microwaveable bowl, cover loosely with cling film and re-heat in the microwave (800W) on full power for 6 minutes, stirring half-way through, or until piping hot throughout.
