Homemade Mincemeat

Let the festivities commence! Start planning ahead this Christmas and make your own mincemeat. Be sure to give the flavours maximum time to mature, and also add our Schwartz Christmas products like ground ginger and mixed spice for a proper taste explosion.

  • Place apples, orange and lemon zest and juice in a large bowl with the remaining ingredients. Mix them together thoroughly, cover the bowl and leave it to stand overnight.

  • Spoon the mixture into clean jars. Seal the jars tightly using screw or twist-on lids or cellophane jampot covers. Label and store in a cool place for at least two weeks before using.

    I have been using this recipe for years at least 25 I use all the ingredients other than the suet I make the mincemeat a year in advance place in in kilner jars and add alcohol every 2/3 months to ensure it does not dry out. My Schwartz " Christmas Season" has now disintegrated but i have managed to save this and the Christmas pudding recipe to use each year
