Sausage & Sweet Pickle Plait
  • 450 grams pork sausage meat

  • 2 teaspoons Pork Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon Dried Sage

  • 200 grams packet puff pastry

  • 3 tablespoons sweet pickle

  • 1 medium egg, beaten

  • Poppy Seeds , sprinkling


  • 1 Pre-heat the oven to 220°C, 425°F, Gas Mark 7
  • 2 Combine the sausage meat with the Pork Seasoning and Schwartz Sage. Roll out the pastry to a rectangle measuring approx. 30.5 x 20.5cm (12 x 8"). Place the sausage meat lengthwise down the center third of the pastry. Run the back of a teaspoon down the center of the sausage meat and fill the groove with the pickle.
  • 3 Cut horizontal strips down each side of the pastry to within 2.5cm (1") of the filling. Fold the end pieces of pastry over the filling and lift strips of pastry over the filling from alternative sides to form a plaited effect.
  • 4 Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with Poppy Seeds. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes or until well risen and golden. Serve hot or cold.
